Shows: How You Doin?

I've begun realizing that even though I frequently mention how Denise and I don't watch much TV, I sure do spend a lot of time talking about it. Seriously, though - we really don't watch that much. She does turn it on in the morning to get ready, as she likes to watch the news. I watch the monitor instead, getting my news online. At least until she yells that something interesting is on TV and I need to come check it out.

After that, the only regular show we watch is The Amazing Race, which I've talked about repeatedly. That's not to say that the TV doesn't come on now and again to provide background (perhaps even foreground) noise, but generally it's not something we think about. We certainly don't seem to take any time out of our schedule, or set the VCR or any other video recording device, just to make sure we catch a show.

That said, we did watch the Joey premiere last week. Mostly we wanted to see the newly-cast neighbor, as we had heard that they dumped Ashley Scott as "too sexy for her marriage". Apparently the new character is indeed still married, but the sexpot image has been toned down. How do I know this? Yes, I was one of the many who downloaded the pilot from Usenet weeks ago. Sue me.

Anyway, the new actress did a reasonable job last week, though the lines seemed identical. Perhaps they were just close. So we watched again this week (last night, actually). The show was again pretty good. I'm not going to say this is wholesome family fare or anything, and it's only two shows - but we find it very enjoyable. While we were fans of Friends, we find ourselves chuckling and even laughing out loud at Joey, something that happened only rarely with Friends. Perhaps the humor has finally descended to a level more to our liking, so now we can appreciate it more. That may explain why we like According to Jim as well. Guess I need to go program the VCR.
