Shows: Live or Edited?

Everyone knows about the Ashlee Simpson stink. Some may be too young to remember Milli Vanilli. Now even The Donald is getting into the act. Viewers of the second season of The Apprentice should have no problem hearing his voiceovers, most obviously in the boardroom. Last night's show had one in the scene where Trump spoke to the candidates from the "plane" that obviously had some extra work added.

Haven't noticed yet? Pay extra attention while the camera is not focused on Trump, yet he is speaking. Close your eyes if you have to. It's quite apparent that tracks are added after the fact. Or before the fact perhaps. Let's just say that they are not quite live.

Alert viewers may also notice some inconsistencies in the finale. Notably, the taxi shots are not of the same vehicle. The last two weeks, it appears that the taxi picking up the most recently fired candidate has been the same - 9H35 is the medallion number if I recall correctly. But this is not the same taxi viewed as it drives away. At least two different cabs were spotted in last night's final scenes - I think they were 2H22 and 3-something-something-9.

I would go so far as to say that the "interior" shots are probably not an NYC taxi at all, but a staged mockup, and the other shots are to maximize advertising dollars coming into the network by showing either multiple vehicles or at the very least multiple angles of a similar advertisement.

Not saying that there are many shows on television that are truly "live". Obviously The Apprentice is a TV show, which is certainly different than musical acts. Simply pointing out the level to which things are added to make them turn out just a bit better, or to generate a bit more revenue. Most go completely unnoticed.

Update: Since all the candidates appear to wear the same outfit to the boardroom each week, presumably their "official" one, my thinking is that the walk-off scenes were actually filmed all at once, at the beginning of the series. That would explain the same medallion number quite handily. Likewise, I'm sure that the "driving" shots of the cab were shot at a completely different time, as opposed to getting new ones each week, meaning that those probably stay the same too.
