It turns out I have no idea how to spell "Shmalias". Perhaps it should start with "sch", as in the Laverne and Shirley theme song. Regardless, you should be able to figure it out. Anyway. Like many (I assume), we watched the Alias premier on Wednesday. I have to say that I was disappointed like crazy.

The latest soap opera plot was okay, but it didn't even last the whole episode. And who didn't see Sloan heading the new team as it was being introduced? And what's up with the "black ops" agency that just happens to have another few dozen people working out of the same location? Surely someone in the train tunnels of LA would see someone taking the secret exit. What happens at rush hour? It would all seem to be a bit less than covert, wouldn't it?

So I'm trying to watch Joey, one of my guilty pleasures, and the tornado watch stuff starts scrolling. No big deal. It's annoying, but at least it's relatively minor. Then they switch the whole thing off and show me the meteorologist drawing with his graphics pad. So far it's been on for 15 minutes.

Now if the event was a warning, and it was closer than 50 miles away, I might say that you could argue that it's worth the pre-emption. But it's not. Chances are that it won't. So why do I have to put up with this sort of thing?

We watched the third episode of the new Alias last night, and have to say that we're really not that impressed. This episode tilted marginally back towards the interesting (ie, not just a bunch of action-packed scenes with poor CGI), but it still was ho-hum compared to prior seasons.

I think the problem is one faced by soap operas. That is, they've already done plenty, and it's getting hard to even keep up, much less top, what's gone before. I'm assuming they will soon move in with Lauren (Vaughn's ex-wife) being the niece in the arms of Irina in the picture, but that's mostly because I don't know what other female is even seen with any regularity.
