Last night on American Idol, Constantine Maroulis gave us an excellent rendition of Queen’s classic, Bohemian Rhapsody. Even judge Simon Cowell seemed impressed, giving us just one word for his verdict: Astonishing. Well done, Constantine.
I have to say that I haven’t particularly cared for Constantine, instead preferring fellow contestant Bo Bice, but of late, Bo has seemed to be, well, Bo, and Constantine has really stepped it up. I rarely agree with “judge” Paula Abdul, thinking she is too much of a cheerleader, but last night she said that Constantine is the one to beat, and I can’t say that I disagree, based solely on that performance.
Also impressive last night was Vonzell Solomon. She’s really turned it on as well. While I still think that Bo and country girl Carrie Underwood may be in the final, Constantine and Vonzell look like they’re going to make it more of a race.
Carrie had a good performance last night of Pat Benatar’s Love is a Battlefield. I didn’t care for those “big notes” that are so popular on Idol - they didn’t fit the song. But all in all, I thought she did a good job. Not as good as some of her other performances perhaps, but still quite respectable. You also have to wonder about Carrie and Bo - they are alsmot always next to one another. Think she did this song for him - to show her harder side?
