American Idol Countdown

With just four contestants left, last night’s performances were surprisingly weak. Even Bo, who is clearly the superior single contestant, had a bad song - though as far as I can tell he performed it well. It just wasn’t very good.

Carrie is also generally head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd, but last night she looked eerily… human. I thought that she did the Dixie Chicks song very well, but that rendition of If You Don’t Know Me made me feel like I didn’t really want to know her. Blech.

Vonzell’s first song was similarly bad, but in a bit of a surprise, Anthony did pretty well on his first song. For that matter, I thought he did pretty well on his second song - certainly his rendition of If You Don’t Know Me was better than Carrie’s. Hard to imagine, but it’s true. What’s worse is that his “lesser song” was probably his first - while Carrie’s was her second. This means the fans will have the most recent image of her poorer performance. That could be bad.

I also thought that Vonzell did rather well on her second song. Definitely much better than the first, and naturally it was easily better than Carrie’s dud in the second round of songs last night.

While this is a tough week, you’d think the performances would be better. It seems to me that Bo is still a lock for the win unless he just royally screws up sometime, or keeps selecting horrid songs like that Travis Tritt one from last night. Sorry, TT fans, but that was bad. At least Bo has the vocals to make it somewhat enjoyable.

But with her performances from last night, I think Carrie, Vonzell and Anthony are in a virtual dead heat. While sad, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Carrie get the boot tonight, instead of one of the other two. That would open up Bo’s chances even more.
