Lost in Lost

I’ve recently picked up on Lost. I think it’s the first ABC show that I’ve watched with any regularity since Alias. Wait, that’s not true. I do like According to Jim too.

Anyway, I’ve been trying to catch up, and I think I’ve done a pretty reasonable job of getting up-to-speed on things. The tale seems to be an interesting one. The problem that I’m running into now is that it reminds me of other J.J. Abrams productions.

The first season of Alias was great. The second season, not so much, but still decent. The third season? Blech.

The movie Joy Ride was excellent – right up until nearly the end, when it became not-so-great. And Lost? The first few episodes I caught were excellent. As the season wore on, they became less so. Now, I’m wavering. I’m sure I’ll watch the season opener to find out the result of the cliff- (or ladder-) hanger, but I don’t know beyond that.

While he certainly has some writing ability, and Mr. Abrams can certainly spin a yarn, I don’t know if he knows how to tie anything up. It just keeps spinning and spinning and spinning, and that’s where he loses me (and I am not alone). Maybe I just need to stick with the simplest explanation (thanks Rob).

  • Thanks for the link to the LOST "simplest explanation" I am still LMAO as I am writing this comment.
I just found your weblog via the feedmap neighborhood blog feature. Subscribed via bloglines. I am looking forward to your future posts.
  • Hi Reb -

Thanks for the update on Alias. I also agree that Lost probably can't last too terribly long. I really enjoy Tony Shaloub, though I haven't seen too much of his Monk episodes.

And the wife loves Medium. Or did. Hasn't watched it for a while now.
  • Alias and Lost are two of the few programs that I watch.

Lost seems to be getting better; however, I don't see how this series can survive for more than a year or two.

Alias was starting to get old with the Rombali stuff and with you never knowing if Arvin Sloan was good or bad. The last episode of the year ended well, so we'll see what next year brings.

Nora and I also watch Las Vegas, The Shield, Monk (was a very short season and is probably gone), Medium, plus a few others.
