Shows: Changing our lives with Tivo

I've already mentioned that I like Tivo. But now I'm seeing a different effect. I still like it - maybe even love it - but for different reasons than I did at first.

When you sit down to watch a show each night, you might laugh at the commercials or you might complain. More than likely, you do both. But you will typically watch the show repeatedly anyway. I'm finding now that that isn't always the case with shows we've recorded with our Tivo.

Yes, I said with our Tivo. It's really like a cooperation.

Shows: First Quarter Highlights

Super Bowl XL: The game's a bit of a snoozer, and the commercials aren't much better. So far, I'd rank the Ameriquest "That Killed Him" as the best one, with the Bud Light "Magic Fridge" a close second. Hopefully both the commercials and the game will pick up in the second quarter.

Shows: Second Quarter Down

Super Bowl XL: The game has ticked up a notch, with Pittsburgh scoring a touchdown with just under two minutes (and that was a close one!). The commercials have remained somewhat low-key. One of the best was the CareerBuilder.com chimp commercial, as those are always fun. But I think the Budweiser "Streaker" has to be the best of the game to this point.

Shows: The Longest Halftime in Recent Memory

Super Bowl XL: Halftime is finally over. I've never been a huge fan of the Rolling Stones - but I could always at least enjoy them to some degree for the nostalgia effect. But the sound at Ford Field was horrid, and it was like the show would never end. As poor as the game is, I'm actually looking forward to getting back to it. At least the "Addicted to Lost" commercial was fun, or halftime would have been a total waste.

Shows: Third Quarter in the Books

Super Bowl XL: Pittsburgh opened it up, Seattle made it close again, Ameriquest scored another ad win with the "Airplane Bathroom" spot and Budweiser had a great sentimental ad with "American Dream". At this point, it's looking like Budweiser is a clear winner in the ad contest, with Ameriquest a surprising second place - who are these guys and where did they get funny ads?

Shows: Fourth Quarter - That's a Wrap

Super Bowl XL: It's finally over. Pittsburgh scored on a beautiful reverse option, with Randle El throwing perhaps the best pass of the game to open things up again. Seattle just couldn't pick it up again after that. But the real disappointment in the final quarter was in the commercials. Nothing memorable and even a couple of reruns. That's a shame.

I understand the beginning of the game is the prime real estate for commercials, but there should be something left at the end. Also, did anyone else notice that there sure was a lot of mobile content in the ads? Alltel popped up at least once, Sprint was all over, Mobile ESPN played a major role and Mobile NFL was seen too. It's a new world out there.

Today, the Steelers were just the best team on the field. Congratulations to them.

Shows: Watch the Super Bowl Commercials

Google Video is offering up the Super Bowl XL commercials - though some are strangely missing. The Ameriquest ads, and the CareerBuilder.com ads are the obvious exceptions, though I'm sure there are more. I wonder why. Perhaps these ads were uploaded by others, and aren't really being "provided" by Google at all. In that case, I can only assume that folks didn't like those as much.
