The Twilight Zone Recap: Still Valley

This episode takes a strange twist, with a confederate soldier meeting up with a witchman, who claims to be in league with the devil and have the power to stop the union army in its tracks.

The soldier takes the old man up on his offer at first, but when the soldier must revoke the name of God, he decides to throw the book of witchcraft on the bonfire instead, claiming that rather than be damned and win the war, they will lose but at least they will do so in a state of grace. Nice sentiment, but not all that interesting. Not that I’m saying you should sell your sould to win the war, either. But hey, we’re talking about television here.

  1. Actually, this is one of my personal favorites. It serves me a reminder whenever I want to compromise my ethics for some “victory” in my life, it’s better to lose on “hallowed ground.”
