The Twilight Zone Recap: Nothing in the Dark

A lonely old woman doesn't want to leave her apartment, as she fears meeting "Mister Death". She finally opens the door for a wounded policeman, however (played by a young Robert Redford). After a brief conversation, they are interrupted by someone else at the door - a construction worker who wants the lady to leave because the building is being torn down. During the conversation, he indicates that he doesn't see any policeman, wounded or otherwise, in the room.

It's only after the worker leaves in disgust that the woman realizes that the policeman is indeed Mister Death, but by then it's far too late. Only by then it is okay, because they've got to know one another, and she understands that it isn't going to be so bad. Even though it's a bit simpler than most stories told during the series, the twist at the end makes for a nice tale and it's not totally telegraphed because you don't always see such a nice ending coming. It's also fun seeing a young Redford.
