Mythbusters Recap: Helium Football

Helium Football. The myth of the helium football says that a football, when filled with helium, would fly further. This makes sense, I suppose, in a similar way that a raft filled with helium (from Cell Phones on Planes) would fly.

It seems that after experimentation, however, adding helium actually decreases the weight of the football slightly, so if anything, it may not fly as far (see Newton's First Law). Though really, the results are much the same, with distances that aren't all that different, so statistically speaking, there is no difference here. Busted.

Catching a Bullet in Your Teeth. Meanwhile, the build team works on the myth that you can catch a bullet in your teeth. Do you really need me to explain this one? Bullet = fast, hot piece of metal. Teeth = hardest substance in the body, but come on. Even assuming the materials were good enough, human reaction time just isn't good enough. The build team had to use electronic timers, and even then, they had trouble with it. Busted.
