The Amazing Race Recap: Segesta, Italy
The lead we saw from last week wasn't as large as expected, but it was long enough to make a difference. The always entertaining team of BJ and Tyler continued to stretch that lead by jumping onto an Internet terminal to book their flight, rather than continuing to wait in line at the desk.
Strangely, the husband and wife team of Lake and Michelle couldn't accomplish this task, and by the time Eric and Jeremy decided to try it, the window was open. Unfortunately, all the seats were sold out, so it seemed as if BJ and Tyler were the only ones on the earliest flight. Alas, Eric and Jeremy managed to get on as standby passengers, so somehow Lake and Michelle missed out and made the next flight.
Even stranger, Lake and Michelle missed the early connection at the next stop, so they went from third in line for the earliest possible connection to one of the last teams arriving, and used the yield on this leg of the race to boot (more on that in a moment).
So BJ and Tyler and Eric and Jeremy made it to Rome at the same time, but it seems the flight was full for the connection so BJ and Tyler were the first to the destination by what seems to be about an hour. Then Eric and Jeremy arrived, then the next batch came in about an hour later and the final group of three another hour or so after that (using scheduled times - actual times may vary).
The primary difficulty encountered by the teams was in assembling a statue. It wasn't that the statue was difficult, it was that the statue had some extra pieces. And particular teams - notably David and Lori - had trouble because they wanted to get all the pieces to fit. I can understand completely, because if I had all the pieces, I would go mad if I couldn't get them to work. The thought that extras were there likely wouldn't occur to me for some time.
All-in-all, however, it was pretty uneventful - except for the fact that Lake and Michelle strangely yielded the team of Dani and Danielle. Bizarre not just because of the yield, but because the (apparently) far more competent team of Ray and Yolanda was further behind Dani and Danielle. Why not yield the more dangerous opponent? I have no clue. In the end, it meant that Dani and Danielle were eliminated - though there's no way to tell if that is strictly related to the yield or if it mattered in the end or not.
