The Sopranos Recap: Members Only

Everyone’s favorite crime family has returned. That’s right, The Sopranos are back. What to expect in the sixth season? I have no idea. With one death, a big red herring (color me impressed if Tony is really gone for good) and a whole bunch of sushi eaten, it was just okay. Too much jumpiness for my taste, though the show has never really been one to run in a linear fashion.

House Detective

I admit it. We watch all sorts of reality shows. But lately we’ve been watching a lot of home repair shows. Mostly because there are a few remodeling projects we have left to do. Yet we still have time to watch the House Detective. Mostly because we live in an older home (it was built in 1964). We’ve done a lot of work to the house, but watching the show helps us know not only what to look out for, but what to expect to pay once we find it. Unfortunately, it also shows us what we may have (over)paid for it when we had it done.

Close to Home Recap: Escape

While this episode had most of the drama of the regular series, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed in the storyline. This isn’t because it was a bad story, because it wasn’t. But for whatever reason, I knew within the first few minutes just what would happen throughout the show, which is extremely unlikely for me when watching this particular show. It doesn’t mean it isn’t worth watching. It just means that I hope that they aren’t losing their touch.

At the beginning we saw a crime in process – a jewelery store being robbed – and we saw the thief apprehended, and we even saw right off that he was caught red-handed. The first surprise was that he was one of Annabeth‘s first cases, and she struck a deal to get him behind bars, something that apparently never sat quite right with her. The second surprise was that he had escaped about a year ago when he allegedly killed someone in prison and kidnapped a woman from the prison in order to escape.

Ghost Whisperer Recap: Miss Fortune

This episode started off with a really promising turn by taking us to the carnival. Not a redneck carnival that you might find in my part of the world, but a real old-time freak show and fortune telling carnival, just ripe for interaction with ghosts. There were even plenty of ghosts in the place to help out. Unfortunately, the show left out their details.

Is anyone really surprised when teams take off and it is dark, only to find out they have to wait – some period of time – prior to the next task opening up for them to try it?  I mean seriously – if this was really a race around the world, there is no way that it could be as close as it is if there was not ample time for teams to bunch up in such places or on planes.

So here, in just the second leg, we have teams leaving at 5:30 in the morning, only to get to their next stop and find that it does not open until eight in the morning.  Such is life if you are competing for a million dollars.

Close to Home Recap: Reasonable Doubts

I think this is my favorite episode of the series thus far. Bruce Davison is in a great role here (actually all his appearances in the series are quite good). I only remember him from one other appearance, but it seems this is his fourth go-round so far. I just hope that he has more.

The prosecution seems to have things wrapped up right in the beginning, but an overzealous officer doesn’t allow the suspect to get a lawyer, so they lose the confession. Hellman (Davison) runs with it, pointing the finger at the wife instead. Even an affair with the wife’s mother (that’s right, the guy was sleeping with his mother-in-law) doesn’t seem to seal the deal.

And we’re racing again!

Season number 9 of The Amazing Race has started. I’m just not sure what to think about it yet.

Against my better judgment, for any number of reasons, I like BJ and Tyler this time around. They may or may not have the mental strength, they don’t appear to have the physical strength, but they have been around the world together already, according to their introduction. That should mean that they won’t end up grating on one another’s nerves by the next episode.
