Dirty Jobs Recap: Chimney Sweep
Chimney Sweep. First, Mike becomes a certified chimney sweep in rural Indiana. As it turns out, the most difficult part of this job is finding the chimney sweep certification facility. It has a huge chimney, yet no one seems to know just where this place can be found.
Even though they've been there for a while, no one seems to know where to find it. Surely someone can find it, and sure enough, eventually Mike gets there.. Once he does, they have some fun with learning how to sweep chimneys and set fires, then he cleans some chimneys, and he's all set!
Underwater Logger. Next he heads to Canada where he does some logging - underwater logging that is - of hundred-year-old, old-growth timber. These thousand-pound logs are then moved to the mill, where they are cut into paper-thin veneer, which is pressed onto 'substrate' (apparently a fancy Canadian word for particle board), stained, and used to make really expensive furniture.
Scrap Metal Recycler. Finally, Mike learns how to recycle on a large scale - a really large scale - by separating scrap metal. Did you know that there are apparently 20,000 types of aluminum, and by separating aluminum into as specific a type of alloy as possible, you can make the most money possible? I didn't either. But Mike does. And he can operate some pretty big machinery too.
