Mythbusters Recap: Jet Pack

Personal Jet Pack. In this episode, Adam and Jamie try to do what many have attempted, but none have been able to accomplish (so far). They have purchased plans off for a personal jet pack. In actuality, it's not really a jet pack - it's a gasoline engine that drives two ducted fans. But it's easier to call it a jet pack. The plans also aren't comprehensive, so they have to fill in some blanks along the way.

They then set off to try and build the thing. And they succeed to the point that they get one that fits a person (well, it fits Buster), and it's not too terribly huge, but it doesn't actually lift Buster off the ground. At least, not more than an inch or two. And it does dance around a bit. Perhaps if they had a bit more time they would have been more successful. Busted.

Pyramid Power. Meanwhile, the build team works on pyramid power - the belief that centering your life around (rather, within) pyramids produces modern miracles. Sharper razor blades, prolonged shelf life and the like. In this case, a 'control' razor blade that is used as normal is compared against a razor stored in a pyramid, while an apple stored normally is compared with an apple stored in a pyramid. There is, alas, no apparent difference. So much for that idea. Busted.
