This week the contestants sing from the Great American Songbook, a new release from Rod Stewart, who will also be coaching them on their selections for the week.
Paris Bennett: These Foolish Things
Chris Daughtry: What a Wonderful World
Taylor Hicks: You Send Me
Katharine McPhee: Someone to Watch Over Me
Kellie Pickler: Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered
Elliott Yamin: It Had to Be You
Ace Young: That’s All
This week, I would have to guess that we’ll be without another of the North Carolina contestants. Though I think Chris Daughtry has the chops to pull it off, I don’t know if he has the audience appeal. The first couple of weeks he looked as if he did, but then he went a couple of weeks with some really heavy content, and I’m just not sure that the world is ready for that. Now he goes too far the other way.
I think we’ll see him in the bottom three this week, and I think we’ll see Kellie Pickler, with her cute little “take a load off my chest” line, join him, because she royally blew her performance. I would be amazed if we didn’t see the two of them in the bottom three.
As to the other person? I’m puzzled. While I’d normally vote for Ace Young, I think he did okay (though what was he thinking with that bun on the back of his head?). What they heck – I’ll stick with him anyway, because I just don’t like him very much.
I thought Elliott Yamin did well enough. I will even admit to liking Paris Bennett. I was about to be disappointed with Taylor Hicks, and then he pulled it out. I can’t say enough about Katharine McPhee. It’s still her show to lose.
Update: I missed this one. I wouldn’t have thought Ace would go home. Figures. I pick him to stay, he leaves. At least he’s gone. But Chris needs to watch out or he’ll be next.
So who is going home tonight? Someone please buy Kellie a clue!
