The Twilight Zone Recap: I Shot An Arrow Into the Air
In this episode, we see three survivors (four, actually, but one dies early on) of an ill-fated spaceship launch, the first of its kind. The craft took four-and-a-half years to build, so they have no hope of rescue. The ground crew doesn't know where they are, having lost contact, and they suspect they are on an asteroid in a similar orbit to the earth, since the sun looks to be of roughly the same shape and size. But that doesn't help them find water.
Madness rapidly sets into one of the crew members and in the end he is the only one to survive. As he crests the last hill, he sees what you hope to see and dread to see. Telephone lines, a highway, a bus. He is saved. And doomed, because he has killed the other survivors. They never made it off the earth, just a few miles outside of Reno. Another great early episode.
