The Twilight Zone Recap: Escape Clause

Eerily similar of the later-season A Nice Place to Visit, this episode shows us that you better be careful when bargaining with the devil.

Walter Bedeker, career hypochondriac, makes a bargain to live forever. Thoughtfully, the devil puts in an escape clause – that should Walter decide that he no longer wants to live forever that he can get out, no questions asked.

Strangely enough, just a short while later, Walter exercises the clause. It turns out that he has become bored after 14 near-death (but no-death) incidents, and when he decides to try the electric chair, but his lawyer gets him life in prison, that escape clause seems to be a good deal indeed. Nice twist!
