The Twilight Zone Recap: Elegy

Three astronauts land on an asteroid after being lost in space. The come across scene after scene from America over 20 years ago (they are from the year 2185). Eventually they meet up with the caretaker of the asteroid, who informs them that this is actually a graveayard, set up on an asteroid to insure peace, since anywhere that man exists – namely the Earth – will only guarantee that there won’t be peace.

In turn, he explains that he’s been there since 1973, and as a machine he activates only when new interns have been sent to be interred into their preferred scene for all time. Any hint of foreshadowing yet? As it turns out, he gives them drinks of “eternifying fluid”, which helps him get them to their wish – a rocket ride towards home.

It was a bit odd, but not as strange as The Four of Us Are Dying. At least the end was pretty good.
