There were three myths reopened in this episode.
Bulletproof Water (from Bulletpoof Water): No one really complained about this episode, but everyone wanted to know if you could actually shoot a gun under water, and what the results would be if you did.
As it turns out, you don’t want to shoot a gun under water if it has any air in it, and you don’t want to shoot a shotgun under water in any case. And as long as you’re more than a couple feet away, you’re probably safe. But if you’re within two or three feet of the shooter, you might be dead. So as with dry ground, keep a safe distance from someone shooting guns.
Confederate Rocket (from Confederate Rocket): Once again, everyone was okay with this myth (though they wanted more camera coverage), but the team (okay, Adam) heard about a way to fire off the rocket using salami as a fuel, so they wanted to try that.
As it turns out, salami may just be too explosive. Even though they couldn’t get more than 20 feet of height with their rocket that did fly, the rocket that didn’t fly exploded on the test pad. Consider yourselves warned.
Split Arrow (from Killer Tissue Box): Everyone knows (or should know) the tale of Robin Hood, where he has to beat a bullseye in the competition, and to do so he splits the arrow. The last time around, the team showed that it was darn near impossible to split an arrow from stem to stern like it was done in the movies.
They used materials as recommended by those who complained and showed that it’s still impossible. They did manage to do it, however, but only by using a professional shooter and by making an arrow for splitting – and by making the arrow out of hollow bamboo.
That’s not to say that you can’t hit an arrow dead-center – it’s just almost impossible to split it because of the wood grain. For an example of some impressive such examples, take a look at this amazing clip (skip to about 3:10), which actually shows an arrow disappearing inside another one.
