This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. The late, great Burgess Meredith plays bank teller Henry Bemis, who wants nothing better to settle down with a good book, but he doesn’t have the time. His wife doesn’t let him read, his boss doesn’t let him read, even his customers don’t like it when he reads while counting their money (that one is probably understandable).

So when he is in the bank vault eating his lunch, and the big one is dropped on the city, he is excited to find all kinds books in the city library, and as the only apparent survivor of the bomb he has time to finally sit down and read. But then, in the cruelest of twists, his glasses fall from his face and break into pieces, leaving him unable to read all the wonderful books. A horrible, yet superb, ending!
