Mythbusters Recap: Buried in Concrete, Daddy Longlegs, Jet Taxi
Hunt for Hoffa. When teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa disappeared, it was rumored he was done in by the mob. One of the resting places that comes up in these tales is Giants Stadium in New Jersey. So Adam and Jamie practice burying pig carcasses in concrete, then seeing if they can find them on ground-penetrating radar, to see if they can tell the difference between them and regular ground (they can).
They then take this to the stadium to see if they can find evidence of Hoffa in the five most commonly referred-to locations: The fifty yard line, section 107, the end zones and the ten yard line "bump". Unfortunately, none of them seem to show any indication of anything other than regular dirt (or concrete). Busted.
Jet Taxi. A hack in Rio is rumored to have been blown off the road when he drove by the end of a runway as a 737 was going by, so Adam and Jamie try to set up a similar experience. Unfortunately the insurance company won't let them do so, so they have to use standing engines to make it happen. They can't even get their cab to move, much less roll. So while their recreation was busted, the event acutally happened. Confirmed.
Daddy Longlegs. Everyone knows that the daddy longlegs is the most poisonous spider, but it's little fangs aren't long enough to break the human's skin, so it doesn't quite count. But is it true? It turns out that neither part is true! To begin with, the venom is weak, weak, weak, and the daddy longlegs can actually bite humans to boot. Busted.
