When James Coburn and his crew of military misfits come to town to meet Goldsmith (John Anderson, also in The Odyssey of Flight 33 in Season 2 and A Passage for Trumpet in Season 1) and others who have survived for ten years since the bomb was dropped, they want to know the secret, and they aren’t happy to know about the old man in the cave, and they are even less happy to find out that a blast door keeps them from meeting this old man.
Finally they decide to just eat the food that and drink the liquor that is supposedly contaminated – who is this old man anyway, and how can he know, if he is locked in a cave? Eventually they convince Goldsmith to let them into the cave and they find a computer, and everyone knocks him over, figuring they know best. Well at the end Goldsmith is the only one standing. Everyone else has died from the contaminated food, and the computer is gone.
