The Amazing Race Recap: Lake Yamanaka, Japan
BJ and Tyler and Eric and Jeremy were pretty close throughout this leg, but somehow BJ and Tyler managed to out-pedal Eric and Jeremay in their paddle-boats to the end. With both teams running down the dock to the swan-shaped boats, it looked like the hippies would lose for sure. They had been in this same situation not long ago, as they tried to make it to the finish line in Lake Bennett, Australia and ended up in last place, without any shoes. Perhaps this time they were motivated, as they paddled like they have never paddled before (one would imagine) and they made it to the mother (swan) ship and finished the leg first, just ahead of Eric and Jeremy. Meanwhile, Ray and Yolanda were slightly behind, having got hung up in traffc.
It seems that Tyler's ability to speak Japanese actually served them well here, for BJ and Tyler missed a close call at the airport on their way to Japan, landing somewhere around an hour and a half later than the other two teams. But somehow they managed to not only catch up to the other two teams, but beat Ray and Yolanda to the clue, and then to the pit stop at the capsule hotel. I'm actually not sure if I could have done that one. As I grow older, it seems like I have issues with enclosed spaces, so being in one of those tubes may have been a problem. Perhaps I could have slept in one of the open rooms. Anyway, while Ray and Yolanda did come in eventually, it put them behind the other two teams by fifteen minutes in the morning, and got them to the amusement park after they had already left, and that was all she wrote.
