Mythbusters Recap: Breaking Glass
Can a Singer Break Glass? There have been countless episodes of something breaking glass with just a voice - but they've all been commercials or setups with amplification. Can a voice do it on its own? First they set up to try with amplification, and while Jamie can't do it, Adam can (twice). But they bring in voice coach Jamie and he can do it, without amplification. Confirmed.
Rolling Stone. A rolling stone gathers no moss, or so the saying goes. But what does that really mean? If you roll a stone down a hill, does it mean it won't pick up bits of moss? Well, that really isn't true - rolling stones down hills will actually pick up bits and pieces of moss. But the spirit of the myth was determined to be that a stone that is rolling (and rolling) will not grow moss. How is that the spirit of the saying? I don't know. I just report the show. I don't make it. So the build team sets up a contraption to roll stones and keep 'em rolling.
For six weeks they roll and they figure out they did it wrong. So they start over, chopping up their moss even finer, and then they roll for another six months. And at the end, the stationary stones have moss all over. The conditions were fine. But the rolling stones? They grew no moss at all. So in the spirit of the saying, this one is... Confirmed.
Shop-Vac Jet Engine. When Tory goes to visit the vacuum guy, he finds out that you can start a fire with a vacuum. But can you make a jet engine out of one? He sets up a tube with a vacuum engine at the center, fills it with fuel, and sets it ablaze, but it shoots out a stream of fire - no thrust to be found. Sorry, not an engine without thrust. Busted.
