Amazing Stories Recap: No Day at the Beach
Eerily reminiscent of Ring-a-Ding Girl, the Season 5 gem from The Twilight Zone that I saw for the first time just yesterday, this tells the story of several buddies going to war (Normandy to be exact, but it's never really said explicitly). One of them is a young Charlie Sheen, of Two and a Half Men).
These young bucks are headed to war and they know it. Unfortunately, one of the youngest of the bunch is left out of just about everything except for getting the worst of it from the other guys. Yet he doesn't really know it. He's writing a letter home and he tells his folks of how much he looks up to the men he's with.
And as they land on the beach, it turns out that each of them is in reality a coward, and he is the one who is not. He charges the hill, takes out a bunker and saves each one of them. But as they review the day's events, they find that he never got off the boat, being killed by an incoming round before it even landed.
