The Twilight Zone Recap: The Long Morrow
Commander Douglas Stansfield has been chosen for the longest space mission in history because he has no attachments to this planet. He'll sleep in suspended animation, so when he returns, though forty years have elapsed, he will have aged only a few weeks that he has spent exploring the strange planet. Unfortunately he falls in love with a new assignee to the base just before he is to leave on the mission, and to compound the problem, his communications system malfunctions just after he takes off.
After he lands, it is determined that he voluntarily removed himself from suspended animation, so that when he returned, he would be of the same age as his new love. Since his communication system had failed there was no way to tell him that his new love had placed herself into suspension to await his return. Whoops. Predictable, but nice.
