Mythbusters Recap: Shredded Plane
Shredded Plane. This myth encompasses one of two things. Either an irate wife came to the airport and sliced up her husband's plane with a chainsaw or another plane got loose on the runway and ran into another, cutting up the tail section. Busted and confirmed, respectively. The first resulted in slices that were quite possible, but jagged, not clean. The second was rigged up with a rail cart and an old engine and looked just like the picture.
Fire Without Matches - Two Sticks. While everyone knows you can make fire with two sticks, Grant, Kari and Tory couldn't do so. At least, not without some gunpowder and a drill. They might not do so well if they were on a desert island. Not really confirmed, but not really busted, either.
Fire Without Matches - Bullets. It turns out if you take a bullet apart, then insert something flammable, like cotton, and fire the bullet at something flamable, like brush, you can start a fire. Useful if you remembered to pack your rifle on the plane but forgot your lighter. Confirmed.
Fire Without Matches - Cola Can Chocolate. Apparently if you rub chocolate on aluminum, you can polish it. And if you polish it long enough, and hold the tinder still enough, you can start a fire. This one just might prove useful. Confirmed.
Fire Without Matches - Battery and Steel Wool. According to a survival expert, if you use steel wool to make a connection across battery terminals, you can create a spark. And if you then take the spark you can make fire. Useful, but I don't often carry steel wool. Or batteries. Though I might have a flashlight now and again. Confirmed.
Fire Without Matches - Fire from Ice. On the off chance you're stranded in the arctic, and you find some really clear ice, try and make a lens from it to focus the sunlight and use that to start your fire. It just might work, and it's probably more likely than having steel wool in most cases. Confirmed.
