Lost Recap: Man of Science, Man of Faith
The second season kicks off with a man performing some rather mundane tasks, when suddenly he is disturbed by a rather large explosion. We find that the explosion is Locke, who has just set off the dynamite retrieved from the other side of the island and the man is on the inside of the hatch, and he quickly reacts by retrieving a gun and trying to find out who wants to get in.
Meanwhile we get some flashbacks into Jack and his days in the hospital, where he is called upon to repair a woman's severed spinal cord. Only he doesn't think he can do it, and he goes to run around a stadium, where he meets a man by the name of Desmond, who is preparing for an around the world sailboat race by also running around the stadium.
Back on the island, the hatch door that was blown off is found to read Quarantine, and against Jack's wishes, Locke and Kate lower themselves into the hatch, only to find at the end of the episode that Locke has a gun to his head. Jack is somewhat surprised to find that the gun is held by none other than Desmond, who he met in the stadium some years before.
