Amazing Stories Recap: Magic Saturday
An interesting twist on the body-changing story. This time the grandpa and the grandson are in on it, so they know when it's happening. The only problem is that the grandpa goes out for a day at the ballpark (in the youngster's body) and the grandson is stuck at home, near death, as he realizes that while he loves his grandpa, perhaps this wasn't such a good idea after all.
What made The Twilight Zone great is at this moment we would have been whisked away, suspecting that perhaps the youngster would have been lost forever as the older body gave out. Or maybe, just maybe, the older mind would have prevailed and saved him in the nick of time. But we wouldn't have known. By 1986, it's all too cut and dry, and the older man in the younger body of course makes it home as he is supposed to and the younger boy gets out just as he should, so everyone is happy. What is perhaps a great story with a wonderful twist at the end becomes more Hollywood drivel.
