In this episode, a struggling Hollywood writer is presented with a sudden opportunity – he can submit a story for a sitcom. The only problem is that it’s due in the morning and he doesn’t have anything ready. He says that he’ll have something right over. So he stays up and can get only halfway through the first act before heading off to bed. As he calls the office to tell them he can’t make it, he finds the whole script done and ready-to-go – and it’s great!
As he returns from the day’s work, he tries to figure out how it was done and he just can’t. So he sits down to type another episode and then the answer comes to him as he is typing – mostly because it actually comes on to him. His plant did the work! It seems that the plant needs sun, and he left his television on all day, so instead of a real sun, it got what it needed from this fake sun, and that was all it needed. What’s more, the plant is a girl, and it just wants to spend time with Billy. Unfortunately, Billy wants to spend time with his new friends, so one night he sits the plant on a ledge and it falls to the ground as a cat wanders by and knocks it off.
Billy wakes the next morning and finds he is in trouble. He can no longer write because he’s lost his muse, his friend and his talent. He buries Lucy at the graveyard and dutifully goes to see her regularly. One day her roots sprout new leaves and then he’s back, baby. The Billy Burliss writing agency is born. He grows all sorts of new plants and they write, write, write!
