Dirty Jobs Recap: Ostrich Farmer
Coffee Taster. Once again Mike returns to Hawaii (he was also there in Micro-Algae Man and a bizarre dream sequence in Cheese Maker). Or perhaps he filmed all of these segments at once and just spread them out. I don't know. In any case, this time he's spreading donkey poo around coffee trees. It fertilizes them. Just don't put it up against the stalks. Honest.
Once the trees grow (he didn't wait for this, but instead checked out some already-grown beans) you harvest the beans, the do some cleaning, bagging, unbagging, roasting, more bagging and unbagging, and then you can actually make coffee. Or you could just go to Starbucks and save yourself the trouble.
Marine Mammal Rescuer. Next it was off to help rescue some marine animals who need some help for various reasons. Most of them don't realize that they are being helped, so you have to grind up fish and feed it to them. In some cases through a tube that you have to insert all the way into their belly. This one is a really dirty, nasty job. But the animals are cute when they aren't regurgitating the fish or rolling around in their own poo.
Ostrich Farmer. Finally, Mike goes to the farm where he learns how to feed these beasts, who have two thousand pounds of kicking force in those backwards-bending legs of theirs. These nine-feet tall creatures with brains the size of walnuts can also be very mean, and you have to grab their heads and put hoods over them if you want to transport them. If you want to see a funny segment, watch Mike try to do this to get them into the horse trailer. It's a riot.
