Don’t Trust They Neighbor. The teams magically made their way from Montana to Massachusetts, and once again stayed in a bed and breakfast. We learned that the Grad Student team had decided to drop out of the hunt due to the injury of one of their memories, which paved the way for the return of the Brown Family. An interesting twist, which is sure to ruffle some feathers, but I have to say that it makes things interesting – knowing that no one will be eliminated because someone has dropped out takes some of the fun out. Bringing back a team that is eliminated ups the ante a bit. I like it.
The teams then must find the Mary C. Burke School, and nearly everyone follows the Southie Boys, since they are after all from Boston. As it turns out, the Air Force team gets there first, but mis-interprets the clue and heads off in the wrong direction. Everyone except the Fogal Family gets there, finds the correct clue and heads off to the next stage, where they team up in pairs. This leaves the Fogals and Air Force to team up as the final pair. In the end, Air Force and the Fogals figure it out first and get to the Old North Church, then decipher the clue that leads to the Boston Lighthouse.
They have to catch boats to the island where the lighthouse resides, and the Brown Family gets the last ticket to the island, while every team other than the Wild Hanlons, who are mad that the Browns are back in it, asks another team to ride along with them. It comes back and bites them, though, as the Hanlons can’t figure out the Roman Numerals on the island and the Browns get the last artifact from the locked boxes, eliminating the Hanlons.
Another interesting twist was that the boxes contained rocks – so apparently the producers learned from the early mistake that the teams shook the boxes (at Mount Rushmore) to determine which ones held something. Not so here, because all the boxes held something – but some only held rocks. Well done.
