Treasure Hunters Recap: Savannah, Georgia

Follow the Drinking Gourd (Part 2). All the excitement about The Geniuses leaving Sam behind turned out to be just a hoax, of course, as they came back to get him. Good thing, too, as he was the one who figured out how to get past one of their obstacles. Meanwhile, Keith had to drop out because of his leg injury, which meant that The Brown Family had to either drop out or take a six-hour penalty before continuing. They chose the penalty.

Meanwhile, everyone else finished the swamp, and had to hunt for their next clue in a large stack of quilts. The Geniuses actually showed some of their intelligence and were the only ones to wear their special glasses to help find the clue (even though they were at the tail end of the hunt), and it allowed them some precious time which they needed badly. The clue led to the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, SC, where teams had to find their next clue.

Everyone figured out that they had to do something with the mirrors, but most teams stood around for a while. Eventually all teams determined that they had to breathe on the mirrors to display the hidden message leading to Fort Pulaski outside Savannah, GA. This is where Sam pulled it out for The Geniuses. The other two were wandering around and Sam figured it out.

Once at the fort, teams seemed to find the clue pretty easily, but it was the final stage that did most teams in. Everyone had to dig for the next artifact, a death mask, but there was no clue to tell them where to dig, or even how deep. Air Force got lucky on their first hole and just 17 minutes in was on their way to the next rest area. Other teams, meanwhile, toiled a bit longer, with Ex-CIA taking about four hours and Southie Boys more than six. Still, they were all better off the The Geniuses, who didn't finish until after 7am, so it looks like they'll have a tough haul of it next week.

The Brown Family was eliminated (again) after not even making it to the fort, being hung up in the theatre trying to figure out the mirrors for a couple of hours. Probably better, as getting to the dig site and then having to dig for a couple hours, and then being eliminated would have just been demoralizing.
