The Man Behind the Mask. The teams started once again in a bed and breakfast, finding out that they had to leave the country and head to the catacombs of Paris. This actually created the first problem in this leg, as the teams broke into two groups as the Fogal Family followed two Parisians to where they thought the entrance to the catacombs was, and team Air Force and The Geniuses followed them, while Ex-CIA, Miss USA and The Southie Boys stayed on the train to where they knew the entrance was.
As it happened, the natives didn’t know where they were going, and ended up abandoning the teams (or so it was edited), which gave the latter teams quite an edge. They made it first into the catacombs, and found the next clue, which told them to find a statue, and they promptly made their way there. Meanwhile the other three teams finally found the catacombs and did the same, but Air Force and the Fogal Family both got lost getting to the statue, giving The Geniuses a bit of a lead.
The next clue required them to break open the mask, which revealed a clue that led them to another country (England), and a castle, where they had to find yet another clue – an arrow that would show them the way. All the teams appeared to have trouble with this clue, and the teams stayed in about the same order, but the final three teams bunched up a bit as they arrived at the Priory Church in London, where Benjamin Franklin had a printing press.
All the teams had a problem here figuring out the need to expose the parchment to smoke and/or heat in order to show a hidden message, which was a map of the church, in turn showing the location of boxes that contained the next artifact. In the end, Air Force beat The Fogal Family to the last artifact, eliminating The Fogals from the competition. In the final episode, Air Force mentioned that The Fogals actually stopped burning their map in order to let them win. Kudos to The Fogals for stepping aside!
