In 1997 the three-man crew of an exploratory spaceship is surveying the land around a planet in order to determine if it can be used for colonization when one of them spots something the requires further investigation.
Captain Ross (Jack Klugman, who also starred in A Passage for Trumpet from Season 1, the excellent A Game of Pool from Season 3 and In Praise of Pip from Season 5) decides they will land, where they find a crashed ship similar to their own. Upon further investigation, it is exactly like their own, including their own dead bodies.
Frantically, they search for an explanation, including some sort of time warp where the crashed ship is perhaps a possibility if they take off again, or maybe alien mind-control to keep them from colonizing the planet. They break free, only to return again to collect the samples that they forgot and the crew realizes what they captain does not – that the other ship is reality, and that they have already crashed, but they just haven’t realized it yet.
