Dirty Jobs Recap: Pig Farmer

Pig Farmer. The first stop on this ride is a pig farm. Pig farms, in case you weren’t aware, are dirty. Though these guys start their lives awfully small, they gain weight in a hurry. Mostly because they eat. They eat about anything and so they really pack on the weight. In a short time, they are ready to be bred, and that’s just what we see next. Not for the faint of heart. Make sure you allow plenty of time before eating.

Chewing-Gum Buster. From the farm to the city, and a super-powered, steam-cleaning pressure washer. Ever see those black spots on the sidewalk? As it turns out, they aren’t little spots of tar. They are gum. Really. Thousands and thousands of pieces of gum, ground into the sidewalk. So for a small fee, a crew can help clean the sidewalk in front of your business, a square foot at a time.

Pigeon-Poop Cleaner-Upper. Perhaps one of the dirtiest animals known to man is the pigeon. Some 60 diseases have been attributed to pigeons and their poo. So what do we do? We clean the poo! Actually, we watch someone else clean the poo. Lots of it. And when they are done, they roll out electrical cable around the top of the roof to keep the pigeons from coming back. Apparently those owls that people put up don’t work. The pigeons land on them. The spikes? They don’t work either. The pigeons build their nests in them. But electricity? That works. Good to know.
