Dirty Jobs Recap: Jobs that Bite Harder

Shark Taxidermist. I’m not sure this is really the appropriate title for this job, as they aren’t really mounting real animals here – they are making molds from animals, then creating thousands of replicas from those molds. But it’s close enough.

The job in this case is to take a real shark and plaster it with fiberglass. Then flip it over and do the same to the other side. Once it hardens, you peel the fiberglass off and scrape the shark out. Clean the mold, and you can make all sorts of copies. Fill your mold, paint it and you’re all set.

Shark Suit Maker/Tester. Apparently this job originally came up as a Shark Suit Maker, but in reality, once you make the suit, you’ve got to test it. While the suit is similar to chain mail, it’s actually much finer (and much lighter too). Once you get it on, you just get in and see what happens. I’m not sure if I would have jumped into the water with so many sharks, especially ones that were feeding like these – they were actually munching on the arms of these guys!
