In the suburbs nothing usually changes, but one night a new set of neighbors moves in and things do change. Especially odd because they come in the middle of the night and they didn’t bring a moving truck. They didn’t even bring a car, in fact.

As it turns out, they are from 400 years or so in the future and they’ve come to escape what they see as a sterile society. What isn’t explained is how they managed to have their child the “natural” way without being detected. You’d think someone would notice that. It’s also odd that a fragile time-travel device made of what appears to be glass can easily be put back together by a young child so that it works again. Oh well. It’s not a bad tale, just lacking in some details.

Keep an eye out for Adam Ant as neighbor Ted Hellenbeck and Marcia Strassman of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids as the mom.

Amazing Stories Recap: Secret Cinema

A young woman visits a doctor for help understanding what she is going through – her soon-to-be husband (Griffin Dunne of Johnny Dangerously) is having doubts about their wedding (he has, in fact, dumped her) and she just doesn’t understand. It is really a diffcult episode to understand as the doctor and the nurse keep cropping up in strange places throughout.

But eventually it gets makes sense as you find out that they have been making a movie about the woman’s troubles and showing it in the Secret Cinema. The only problem is that she becomes a large star from it, and they don’t, and in the end she is the one who becomes famous and they get trash dumped on them from a garbage truck. Rather odd, really. Not that they don’t deserve it. It just didn’t really make a lot of sense.

Amazing Stories Recap: Miscalculation

A young man (Jon Cryer of Two and a Half Men) in college just can’t get a date. He has a book, but none of the women want to give him the time of day. Some just want to kill him. Literally. All except the daughter of the house mother, and he doesn’t think dating her would be a good idea.

One day in chemistry class, he spills some liquids on a magazine and suddenly a dog appears out of nowhere. He then realizes that the liquids he spilled made the dog come alive out of the pages of the magazine, so he takes them back to his room and frantically tries to bring women to life from the pictures he has in his room. Unfortunately he can’t seem to get the formula just right. He uses too much, then too little.

When he does get it right, he’s interrupted by the pizza guy, who blocks him in the closet and steals the woman – but he doesn’t realize it and ends up kissing the daughter he was trying to avoid. It all works out in the end. Except the remaining drops of liquid start dripping on and old Fangoria magazine, which is where the episode ends.

Ghost Whisperer Recap: Ghost Bride

As an acquaintance of Melinda’s gets married, she is haunted by the former wife of the husband-to-be. It appears she died on the way the reception. As the episode unfolds, it seems that she had hidden the fact that she had a miscarriage just before the wedding from her new husband, and he wasn’t too happy about it. When their car crashed, it killed her and the best man, and now she’s not too happy that he’s marrying someone else.

In the end, of course, Melinda makes everything work out, and she and the best man find out that they have feelings for one another, so it all ends well.

Ghost Whisperer Recap: Shadow Boxer

A young boxer is estranged from his father because he blames him for being away from his mother when she died, when in reality his father was just honoring his mother’s wishes. Of course, Melinda comes through and brings the family back together again, just in time so that the son doesn’t fall victim to the evil promoter trying to do the son harm.

One of the best episodes, as far as supporting cast goes, mostly due to Julio Oscar Mechoso in his role as Gilbert, the boy’s father. The family was quite believable and brought a lot of emotion into the episode.

Secrets of an Infamous War. The remaining four teams return to the US and gather up Susan B. Anthony dollars, with instructions to find the Hall of Fame for Great Americans at Bronx Community College. When they did, there was no clue to be found. Until they noticed where her bust was looking, and there a mailbox contained some keys and a message to head to the library.

Windfall Recap: The Myth of More

Damien and Frankie continue their road trip by trying to crash a prom – only they are the ones who crash, getting busted at the prom, then getting busted by Frankie’s mom as she cancels the credit card, meaning they have no money. So Damien turns around and heads home while Frankie sleeps, which doesn’t make her too happy. Turns out he might have some sense after all.

Beth can’t seem to decide what she wants, even though she knows she doesn’t want Cameron. She tries on a pastry chef for size, but in the morning she feels guilty, so she kicks him out and then she feels guilty about that and… well, she’s just a mess. Kimberly, who has become Beth’s confidant, is beginning to suspect something is up as Nina forgets everything having to do with her kids and also doesn’t want anything to do with Beth, who she thought was her friend (I expect to see more there).

Peter, meanwhile, shows in the Money Tracker as spending more than twenty million says that he isn’t in a hole, and I’m not sure how that has hapepned (see my rambling on the Pilot for more on the money distrbution). In any case, his bike rider has pulled a fast one and is apparently still doping so it looks like they’ll be pulling out of their advertising campaign at a loss, but Peter won’t take Sunny’s money – but at the end of the episode, Sunny has said she will be buying into the company to keep it afloat (while Peter strokes her leg).

Cameron waits patiently for Nina, while she vacillates between being a good mother (she doesn’t spend much time on that one) and leaving Peter, but she can’t quite leave him just yet – until he decides to spend the night at the factory, at which point she promptly shows up on Cameron’s doorstep.

And in the shocker of the night (which isn’t really a shocker if you’ve been following this category), Zoe is indeed alive, but she thinks Sean sent the Russian to knock her off, so she’s been in hiding. She tries to get Tally to leave, and Tally leaves with her, but only for a while – then she goes back to Sean – but only long enough that they figure out Park is the one who is behind it all, and then they get a call to identify Zoe’s body, and this time it’s for real. Looks like Park may have the drop on Sean this time, judging by the preview.

Dirty Jobs Recap: Pig Farmer

Pig Farmer. The first stop on this ride is a pig farm. Pig farms, in case you weren’t aware, are dirty. Though these guys start their lives awfully small, they gain weight in a hurry. Mostly because they eat. They eat about anything and so they really pack on the weight. In a short time, they are ready to be bred, and that’s just what we see next. Not for the faint of heart. Make sure you allow plenty of time before eating.

Who Wants to be a Superhero?

Twelve contestants on this Sci-Fi Channel reality show are vying for the ultimate approval of comic legend Stan “The Man” Lee, who will award them with their very own comic book, and apparently they will also get their own original movie on Sci-Fi as well.

The show isn’t all that well put together, as it has absolutely none of the polish of some other reality shows, but that actually adds to the charm. The contestants are entertaining in how much they seem to want to be their superheroes and that’s just part of the fun. Watching the guy with the muscles lose out to the hundred pound girl because she has more heart than he does is a riot.
