According to Jim Recap: Pilot
We meet Jim (Jim Belushi) and his family: Wife Cheryl (Courtney Thorne-Smith), her sister Dana (Kimberly Williams) and brother Andy (Larry Joe Campbell).
Today is daughter Ruby's first day of kindergarten, and Jim can't understand why Cheryl can't just drop her off at school and leave. So after a couple days of watching, he volunteers to take over and show her how it should be done. As things turn out, it perhaps isn't the best idea.
While being carried off because he just won't leave, he destroys some property, and so he has to enroll Ruby at a different school. Luckily they let him stay with Ruby throughout the day. Meanwhile, he doesn't even tell Cheryl.
Eventually, though, Cheryl finds out, and she isn't happy. To make things worse, she finds out during dinner for Andy and his girlfriend Carrie, who are currently split over a spat over who broke the hair dryer, and who is to blame for the whole thing. It doesn't seem to work out, as we never see Carrie again (we do hear of her, as she gets married in the Under Pressure episode - but not to Andy).
