My Name is Earl Recap: Jump for Joy

With Joy in jail, Earl, Crabman and Randy head to court to try and find out how much her bail will be. Well, Earl and Crabman do. Randy goes because he wants the judge to crack open his walnut with his "judge hammer". When the judge tells them, they are floored - Joy's bail is set at $1 million!

It turns out that this is her third strike. She thought it would be a good idea to copy some money one day, and as she was being taken in, she struck an officer, so that was two strikes right there. Now she's set to go down, and no one knows how they will get the money - until they realize that they do know someone - Chubby (Burt Reynolds) - who owns not only the local barebecue joint, but the local strip joint as well (two kinds of meat markets, I guess).

It turns out that he will help Joy, but only if Earl will help him get his best dancer back. As luck would have it, that dancer is Catalina. She quit dancing when her act killed someone, and she hasn't worked since. Earl knows that she won't (willingly) help Joy, so he tricks her into going to talk to the family of the man who died, and it turns out that they are happier than ever, so she agrees to go to work.

Just as he thinks he's home free, Earl sees Crabman bringing Catalina homemade lemon squares, and knows if he makes it, she will know what's up. But unfortunately, he can't beat Crabman to Catalina, and she learns what Earl has been up to. So it's back to the drawing board.

Chubby agrees that he'll pay the bail if Joy dances - but there's just one problem: Joy can't dance in front of all those people. Not sober, anyway. So she starts drinking, and that leads to another problem - she can barely walk. As her body gets rid of all the alcohol she just took in, Earl passes out from the stress, and as he falls down, he notices Catalina getting up on stage to start her act.

It turns out that she was inspired by the fact that he was causing himself physical pain to help someone else, and she figured that it was the least she could do to help out - not for Joy, but for him.
