My Name is Earl Recap: Sticks and Stones
When Earl is helping Randy and Catalina wax the mustache of a fellow motel worker, he recalls making fun of a girl he knew in school, and he realizes that he needs to see if he can find her and make it up to her. The problem is that she was only in the school for a short while, so he doesn't know if he can find her. But after looking through the phone book, he does track her down, and she's not far away, so Earl and Randy manage to find her house. When they get her, she looks like the Bearded Lady in the circus side show. Which isn't too strange, because apparently that's just what she is!
When they talk to her, she lets Earl off the hook, because she is fine with the way things turned out, since they were just kids, but Earl isn't sure - he feels like there is something missing. When he realizes that the entire side show lives in this little community, and he catches himself calling them names too, he knows that he needs to get to know all of them as people before he can cross her off the list, so that's just what they do - Earl and Randy stay for a cookout, and they get to know each of the people in the little community, and they are glad they did.
But when Earl and Randy try and go for ice cream, all their new friends get nervous and run home, and that's when things really heat up, and when Earl finds out that they just hide out in their little corner of the world, and when Earl has to face his own fear. When he was a kid, the coach made him take off his shirt on the high dive and kids laughed at him and his hairy nipples, and so he decides to face his fear - to get up on that high dive, take off his shirt, and show them that they don't need to be afraid. Of course, having hair nipples when your chest is hairy is a lot different than having lobster-claw hands or a horn on your head, but Earl is doing his best.
When he gets to the high dive, he almost chickens out, but his new friends show up, so he goes through with it, and it insprires them too, and they all go off the high dive - lobster-claw hands and all.
