Close to Home Recap: Truly, Madly, Deeply
When a young girl stumbles home from a party, she finds the door to her home locked. Apparently her parents consider this "tough love". But when they come downstairs a few minutes later to let her in, they find her gone. The next morning, she is found clinging to life on the other side of town, and she's been assaulted. The last thing she can remember is calling back to the hosts of the party to let them know that she can't get into the house. The hospital confirms that she's been raped. Annabeth and the team can find no DNA or other evidence, so that's the only lead they have.
Talking to the neighbors, they find that the husband at the party was spotted leaving the house once, and then again later - but they didn't see the girl with him. The wife, however, says that he was home all night. Something is definitely fishy. Digging a little deeper shows that she has checked into some emergency rooms across town for injuries that seem consistent with those a battered wife might receive. Pushing a little harder, the wife agrees to testify that the husband actually raped the girl, but only if they can protect her from him.
Unfortunately, when she gets up on the stand, she has something a little different to say - namely that nothing at all happened that night. Suddenly everything is falling apart. When the detectives tail their suspect and find he and his wife not only playing sex games, but spot her dressed as her dead sister, they get warrants and find an incriminating video of the two of them molesting the sister before killing her - and then they find videos of two other girls, including the one that made the phone call. Looks like they will be spending some time behind bars.
Twisted, yes indeed, but this one is based on a true story. I can't pull up the details at the moment, but this very thing was seen on one of those true life crime stories with some slightly different details to it (the wife, for instance, did turn the evidence on the husband). Anyone who knows the details, let me know and I'll add them here. I don't know that all the Close to Home stories are based on real cases, but it is certainly possible.
