As the episode opens, a ballerina made of glass dances across the screen and then crashes to the floor. A young girls runs from the room, only to be confronted by her father. It is Sun. She insists that she did not break it, though her father seems to know she did. She says that it was the maid, and he says that he will believe her, but if she says it was the maid, he must fire the maid. She seems to think about it, and then insists that it was the maid. Her father storms out, presumably to fire the maid. Perhaps Sun is not as innocent as we would think.

When Jim and Cheryl find opera tickets in the mail that belong to their neighbor, Bertram (Steven Gilborn), one of them is elated and the other is not. One guess who is and who is not. If you get it wrong, stop reading now.
Bertram, being a kindly older gentlman, offers the tickets to Cheryl when he sees how excited she is. But then she has a problem getting someone to go with her. Andy won't. Dana won't. You know Jim won't. So he suggest that Bertram take her. That's a great idea!

A fairly typical event - a pizza delivery - turns into something much more serious when Jim and Cheryl learn from Ronnie (the pizza boy, also Robert Belushi, son of Jim and Nephew of John) that the pizza place is in danger of closing because he and his father (Reni Santoni) can't decide on his future. Ronnie wants to be a stand-up comic and his father wants him to go to college.

When Earl and Randy see a black cat cross their path once, then again, then they wait until the bad luck clears and have it circle around them again, it seems that karma is trying to tell them something, so Earl pulls out the list and finds where he stole a cat for Joy so her cat would win the contest. Unfortunately, because she put lip gloss and contacts on the cat, her cat was disqualified, so she didn't win and Earl took the cat to a lady who sleeps all the time and she wouldn't notice anyway. But now it's time to take the cat back.
