Lost Recap: The Glass Ballerina

As the episode opens, a ballerina made of glass dances across the screen and then crashes to the floor. A young girls runs from the room, only to be confronted by her father. It is Sun. She insists that she did not break it, though her father seems to know she did. She says that it was the maid, and he says that he will believe her, but if she says it was the maid, he must fire the maid. She seems to think about it, and then insists that it was the maid. Her father storms out, presumably to fire the maid. Perhaps Sun is not as innocent as we would think.

Then we see Jin, Sun and Sayid once again. They are still on the sailboat, trying to make contact with Jack, Kate and Sawyer. They have left their signal fire burning, yet there has been no response. Jin is upset and wants to turn around, but Sun defies him and sides with Sayid, so they keep sailing, and they find a dock. They go ashore and set a larger fire in order to set a trap. This brings back memories of Jin and Sun and their past.

It seems that Jae and Sun did share some intimate time together, but we still don't know exactly what happens - all we know is that they were indeed in bed together. We also see that Sun was ending it, but it's not clear if it was before anything happened or before anything more happened. That could be significant. It may be that the child she is carrying belongs to Jae from time they shared before she decided to end it.

Nonetheless, Sun's father finds out and walks in on them, and then he sends Jin to kill Jae. Sun doesn't want to do it, so he beats up Jae, and demands he leave the country, but he doesn't kill him. Jae can't stand the shame, so he throws himself off the balcony, right onto Jin's car. It does not seem that Jin knows that Sun was sent to do the deed, but she does seem to know her father was involved.

Back on the island, the trap doesn't work out quite as expected. As Jin and Sayid wait for The Others to show up so they can capture them, Sun goes back to the boat to wait. Unfortunately, that's exactly where they come - to the boat. Sun does manage to shoot one of them and then scramble out the hatch and into the water, but they get away with the boat.

Meanwhile, Kate and Sawyer are sent to a sort of chain gang, where Kate has to break up rocks and Sawyer has to move them. The purpose isn't yet clear, but in the midst of it all, Sawyer decides he just needs to kiss Kate because she looks so great in all that dirt and sweat, so he does. When their captors come to break it up, he almost gets away, until the ice cold Juliet holds a gun to Kate's head. Only then does Sawyer give up the fight.

Jack holds a meeting in his room with Ben, who tries to convince Jack that they are in contact with the outside world, and he does this by telling him about the Red Sox winning the world series - which Jack doesn't buy until he sees a clip on the video screen. Then it's like all the air is knocked out of him. So far this season is shaping up nicely, but it remains to be seen where it is going to end up.
