Ghost Whisperer Recap: The Ghost Within
Because Ned is unable to work due to a math test (or some similar excuse), Delia offers to help Melinda. To her surprise, the first order of duty is to lock up the shop and head out. The flea market apparently holds all sorts of surprises, and this trip is no exception. There Delia finds some wooden ornaments that she thinks would be perfect. When Melinda looks at them, they seem to glow with an otherworldly aura, so she thinks that would be the case.
Once back in the shop, things get strange quickly, as a ghost comes along with the ornaments, but instead of communicating, he starts throwing the ornaments around, breaking things and seemingly trying to get rid of the ornaments. Since he won't talk, and thinking he wants to get rid of the ornaments, Melinda tries to barbecue them. Unfortunately, when she and Jim go back inside, they are right back in the box where they started.
The next day, she has a new ornament that shows a house, and somehow she decides to ask Delia if she can help her find the house. Delia lets her log into her account, and Melinda amazingly finds the house, and makes her way there, where she finds a girl in a rocking chair over the body of the ghost who is haunting her. But it's not enough to make him go away, so the job isn't done yet.
When she investigates further, Melinda finds out that the girl and the dead boy have autism, and perhaps that is why he won't talk to her, so she starts trying to find out more about what is happening, and that's when the puzzle starts to unravel. Melinda goes to talk to the girl, and finds out that the ornaments remind her of her mother, and the back side of the ornaments can be assembled into a picture of her mother - who just so happens to be the lady in the flea market who sold them to Melinda.
So with that knowledge, Melinda heads back to the flea market to get the mother (L. Scott Caldwell, who also plays Rose on Lost) and bring her to meet her daughter, who she gave up years ago on the advice of doctors. That is enough to get the ghost to cross over.
