According to Jim Recap: The Brother-in-Law

Dana brings home her new boyfriend Eddie (Brad Paisley, who later becomes her husband in real life), but there is just one problem: He also plays the keyboards, like Andy. That in itself may not be a problem, but he is a whole lot better than Andy, and when Eddie says that he is playing at the House of Blues and he needs a band, things really heat up - because the band doesn't need two keyboard players.

That's when Jim gets into a pickle, because he doesn't want to hurt Andy's feelings. He tries to stand up for Andy, but the rest of the band votes him down. When he tells Cheryl, she refuses to be the one to tell him and says that Jim has to do the dirty work. Unfortunately, that isn't Jim's strong suit. So he tells Andy that the band isn't practicing this weekend and gives andy some work to do.

When Andy rushes the work and shows up that weekend to deliver the work, he finds the band playing with Eddie, and that Jim lied to him. It isn't that he's mad, exactly - he's just hurt, and wishes that Jim had told him up front. So Andy turns things around and interviews with another company, which shows Jim how it feels. They don't want to pay him much, so it all works out - Andy even says the band can play at the House of Blues, but he wants to name the band, and he wants free tickets and free drinks. Looks like a deal, and Andy is back.
