Close to Home Recap: Legacy
When a woman lawyer turns up dead in a secured office building, it's news. When the woman is the member of a high-profile family that owns half the city, it's not just news, it's an event, and as this one is uncovered, there's more to the story than any of us normal folks can imagine.
The first suspect arrested for the crime is a security guard, but Annabeth and company quickly find out the the victim in this case would often send him home early and the next guard in would simply punch him out - a nice job if you could get it, and seemingly indicating that there is something amiss. So it looks like he's off the hook.
The second suspect in this case is none other than the victim's husband, who it seems has been making some financial hokey-pokey with the company over the last few months, and since his (now deceased) wife stands to give him some money when she dies, perhaps he had hoped to use that to cover his tracks before it was found that he had gotten himself over his head. But the more this avenue was pursued, the less it looked to hold water.
The final suspect was none other than the patriarch of the family, the father of the prior suspect and the father-in-law of the deceased, for it turns out that he is the one who had an affair with the woman a few years prior. As if that wasn't bad enough, it looks like not only did he frame his son for the financial misdeeds, but he brought in the family lawyer to help implicate him for the murder of his wife as well. Spooky.
