According to Jim Recap: The Smell of Success

With career day approaching, Jim is really dreading having to explain to a bunch of kids what he does for a living. It's not that he minds what he does, it's just that kids probably don't understand it all that well. So perhaps the idea of new business is on his mind, and that's when little Kyle gets a little gassy, and a new idea is born.

Jim picks up a doll and he and Andy christen Gassy Gus, that will provide witty sayings when you squeeze it, just before - or after - letting one rip. These aren't just any doll baby's voice (or sounds), but Jim's very own, and they include such witty one-liners as:

  • Here comes a wrecking ball!
  • Do you have a permit for this?
  • That ain't the lunch whistle!
  • Now that's a skyscraper!
  • Danger - Blasting Zone!
  • Let me knock this wall out!

When Jim visits the school for career day, his real job bombs almost as badly as he thought it would, but then he pulls out Gus and the kids are mildly interested. When he squeezes him, the kids light up instantly. Shortly thereafter, another dad, who is a process server, lights up just as much and tells both Andy and Jim that they are served with a copyright violation and they need to stop selling the doll immediately or they will face prosecution.

After getting home, Cheryl finds out that not only did Jim cut out the investors, but he invested some of their own money in the dolls, and she isn't happy about it at all, so she lights into him - and when he shows her the boxes of dolls in the garage, it doesn't get any better. Then he explains how he just wants her to believe in him, and she promptly goes inside and tries out the donuts filled with liquor to show she supports him (he thinks they taste horrible, but she loves the idea after she's had a few).
