This special episode aired after the 100th episode (Geronimo Jim). It is true you have to do a bit of creative counting to get to the 100th episode, but you can do so. In any case, the special episode calls for a special occasion – an anniversary. In this case, a very special anniversary, where Jim remembers the day and purchases a gift for Cheryl (a nice necklace), but she forgets entirely and has nothing for him.
Unlike Anniversary, back in Season 1, Jim doesn’t even ask Dana to buy the necklace for him (at least, as far as we can tell) – he buys it himself. But when Cheryl is presented with the box, she doesn’t know what to do because she has nothing in return, so she does the only thing she can after living with Jim all these years – she comes up with a scheme of her own.
Before long, she and Dana come out of the kitchen with a lovely book that contains memories of their time together, and the rest of the episode gives us highlights of past episodes, with most of them strangely coming from the first, second and fourth seasons.
I only say this because at this writing I haven’t seen the third season at all, this episode aired towards the end of the fourth (there was only one episode after it), meaning that it wouldn’t contain anything from the fifth and out of the clips that aired in the episode, there are perhaps two that I haven’t seen. Since there are perhaps a dozen episodes out of seasons one, two and four combined that I haven’t seen – and reviewed – in the last few weeks, I’m fairly sure that I’d notice. It’s just strange.
Anyway, while thumbing through his lovely gift, Jim notices that the cover comes off of the book and it’s engraved with an even nicer title that tells him that the book was a birthday gift for Cheryl’s mom, and so her little scheme just falls apart. When Jim finds out, he tells Cheryl that he wants to get her something nice that he can make, like she did for him, and take back the purchased gift (the necklace), and recites her a poem that he wrote himself:
With eyes of blue and hair of yellow,
You make me feel like a lucky fellow.
You clean the house and cook the food,
Despite three kids you still look good.
It’s not perfect. But it’s Jim. “Good” in the last line is pronounced so that it rhymes with “food” in the prior line. Say it with a goofy face and it helps.
Your love for me, I’ve always trusted,
Until today, because you are busted!
Our anniversary date was not on your list,
But the perfect gift is just one kiss.
That last bit helps too. No word on if he gave her the necklace. I suspect that he probably did.
