Heroes Recap: Chapter Five: Hiros

We pick up in the subway, with Hiro from the future meeting with Peter from the present. It's apparent that Hiro's powers have increased dramatically, as he no longer seems to struggle to control his powers, and he is also able to focus - he can stop everything except for himself (which is not new) and Peter (which is, at least to us). He gives Peter a message: Save the cheerleader, save the world, and tells him to go to see Isaac. Mohinder has had about enough, and doesn't want to go back.

Peter's brother Nathan, meanwhile, is trying to figure out what happened to him, and he has briefly escaped from his captors, and is trying to get away on the roof of a parking deck - and he suddenly takes off, faster even than Superman. Looks like he can fly after all.

Niki wakes up in the bed in the casino, and she is dismissed as having fulfilled her end of the bargain, and is told she no longer owes the $50,000 - even though she has no recollection of doing anything with Nathan. She also runs into him in the lobby later, and apologizes for what she did, and he realizes that he's been had. At that point, Nathan understands that he's a pawn, too, and gets Mr. Linderman to give him more money for his campaign - no sense having someone in your pocket if they don't get elected. Nicely played.

But before that happens, the present-day Hiro is dropped off with Ando in the desert and they stop for a bite to eat. There, Ando leaves Hiro and that's when Hiro sees Nathan coming in for a landing, clad only in his pajama bottoms. Somehow Hiro convinces Nathan to give him a ride to the airport, where Hiro meets up with Ando, convenient because Hiro can't drive. Ando went back to the airport after showing up at Niki's and almost getting himself arrested.

Back in LA, Matt has returned home, and decided to shower his wife with love - mostly by reading her mind and giving her all the things she thinks about. Mostly she thinks that he's up to something and trying to hide it from her by doing all these things.

Claire is still in the hospital, and when her dad comes to visit, she admits to him that Brody tried to rape her (but not the part about getting a branch stuck in her head). When she does, he brings his spooky Haitian guy into the quarterback's room and tells him to "clean him out". When Claire goes to visit him and apologize for what she did, Brody doesn't remember her, or even understand why she is calling him "Brody". Wow.

When Peter finally gets to Isaac's, Isaac doesn't want to see him because of what happened with Simone. But when Peter picks up a paintbrush and finishes off one of the paintings that Isaac started, he is suitably impressed, and lets him stay - that's when Peter starts realizing that the pictures need to be strung together like a comic, and starts hanging them in order to make sense of them.

What doesn't make sense is how they all got together in order to form a comic that would get published in order for Hiro to find it on his first trip to New York. Perhaps Peter does it and somehow publishes it and then Hiro takes it back for his later self to find. Or something. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Save the cheerleader. Save the world
